So one of the released names, a victim of the Earthquake was Murray Wood. The Stuff website mentions that he was Managing Director of CTV but goes no further. Murray was also one of the founders of MagnumMac the nationwide chain of Apple Resellers that in the last few years was sold to Renaissance. He built that business up having started importing musical gear including early Apple Macintoshes for local Musicians during the 1980’s. Before that Murray was probably best known for his work as Musical Director of various TV shows such as That’s Country and other Entertainment shows produced in the ‘70s and '80s in Christchurch. I met him first playing in the string section for the band for “The Patsy Rigger Show” while he was playing keyboards, sometime during the early to mid '80s. He will be missed by both the Computer and Musical communities in our City.
Awesome Old Coffee Sign

Well new iOS and JB applications having issues. As BiteSMS is one of my most used JB tool, the fact that it crashes on iOS 4.2 is annoying. However I’ve figured out a workaround using Activator (which has been updated already for 4.2).
The crash seems to be related to BiteSMS using it’s own heads-up display for the volume buttons. Therefore disabling this is the main thing to do.
1. If you don’t already have Activator installed go into Cydia and install it.
2. Go into BiteSMS settings and under “Lock Screen Mode/Features” and “Unlock Screen Mode/Features” turn “Quick Compose” off. This will mean that BiteSMS will never itself attempt to change the volume control heads-up display.
3. Go into Settings (i.e. The system settings app) and under “Activator/Anywhere” go to the “Volume Buttons” section and change the “Display Tap” option to be “BiteSMS Quick Compose"
This will allow you to still use the typical gesture of pressing a Volume Button and then tapping the resultant heads-up overlay to get to the Quick Compose setting. However Apple by default doesn’t have any volume control active in the Lock Screen so for this, you have to do something else.
4. In Settings under "Activator/At Lock Screen” I changed both “Down Short Hold” and also “Up Short Hold” so that simply holding down a volume button will bring up a Quick Compose. You may however find that this is too easy to happen in your pocket when you don’t want it so maybe one of the other Activator Actions may be better for you.
Hopefully you should not be back to having some of the functionality back that you were missing.
Another awesome Spring day!
